WonderFL – Okaloosa County

Being the 52nd county in Florida, Okaloosa County has not always been a part of Florida’s History. In 1915, Okaloosa County was created out of Santa Rosa and Walton County, coining the name from a steamboat that brought settlers across on the Black Water River. Since then, Okaloosa County has become a trademark in the Florida Panhandle. With towns such as Crestview, Destin and Fort Walton Beach, it is a great place to visit.

One of the most popular places in Okaloosa County is Destin. One attraction is the Destin Commons. There is great shopping, al fresco dining and plenty of fun for the kids. The Common even has a market every last Sunday of the month where local venders can set up to sell their goods.

Also, Destin is home to Henderson Beach State Park. This park is directly on the beach and has beautiful Florida sand, along with warm gulf waters. The park offers many things to do along with amenities. A visitor can camp, walk on a nature trail, or even just enjoy the beautiful Florida beach.

Right down the road from Destin, is Fort Walton Beach which is home to Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park. Gulfarium is a marine park that is open to visitors to learn and explore sea life. The park is home to dolphins, seals, reptiles and so much more. The park even has animal encounters where guests can learn more about a specific animal of their choice.

Whether a beach, park, or shopping are a visitor’s favorite activities, Okaloosa County has something in store for everyone. From visiting some of the world’s most unique creatures to relaxing on the beach, Okaloosa is ready for a visit!
