WonderFL – Washington County
Bordered by five Florida counties, Washington County makes up a large portion of the Florida Panhandle. Dating back to the 1800s, Washington County historically was a site for early settlers making their way to Northwest Florida for the timber and mineral surplus. Since then, Washington County has flourished and is home to many sites that visitors must see.
One excursion that is a unique spectacle is the Seacrest Wolf Preserve. This preservation allows visitors to experience and learn about wolves. From discovering how these mammals are a keystone species, to learning why their preservation is so important to the ecosystem they inhabit. A visitor can take tours, as well as come face to face with the wolves, which make this an educational yet fun experience.
Washington County is also home to many agriculture opportunities, year-round. In the later Spring and early Fall, a visitor can make their way to the Chipley Farmer’s Market for some fresh produce. Also, if a visitor wants to be enriched in agricultural knowledge, there are plenty of local farms that allow interested guest to spend a day in the fields.
If the great outdoors is on a visitor’s itinerary, try Falling Waters State Park. This state park is one of Florida’s best kept secrets. Falling Waters is home to a 73-foot waterfall, that connects to streams and lakes found in the state park. To get to the fall, a visitor can take the many trails and explore nature, with an exciting treat at the end.
