For those who love nature, Liberty County is like a breath of fresh air. Apalachicola National Forest is easily accessible in the county, brimming with babbling brooks and waterfalls and one of the most famous geological exposures in the U.S. — Alan Bluff. Explore one of the most archaic geologic units in the world, composed of 18-million-year-old fossils. Be overwhelmed by the deafening silence, uninterrupted by the influence of man at Torreya State Park, just north of Bristol. You can even commune with your innermost thoughts at the National Register of Historic Places’ Yon Mound and Village Site, first occupied by America’s earliest inhabitants around 300 A.D.
